Verse of the Day

Heart Condition

So, for today’s quiet time I was reading about how we as Christians have wandered away from Christ with society and we don’t even realize it. I read all of Isiah chapter 1 and I needed to answer some questions after reading it and I wanted to share the questions and my answers with you. I also wanted to share the verse(s) that God gave me while I read the first chapter.

Please read the 1st chapter of Isaiah and answer the questions and post in the comments your answers and share a verse(s) that God shared with you in this passage:

How does God describe Israel and their behavior? What is their heart condition?

God is telling us that Israel has turned from God once again. They have turned to the idols of the people they are around. That their heart is with them and not with God. They have turned God out. That even though they still do their sacrifices it is not the same, they are going through the motions and that is all. They are doing it for Him anymore, they are doing it because that is what they were told to do. It is the law, and they don’t want to break the law.

What does He ask them to do?

He asks them to get themselves clean, to come back to Him. To leave those idols, and seek Him and only Him. If they are to do that He will do all that He wants for them. He will feed them, He will take care of them, He will provide for them.

How does He encourage them in verses 18-20?

He will make their sins as white as snow! If they don’t they will be devoured!

Read Paul’s exhortation to the church in Ephesus and to the church as a whole in Ephesians 4: 17-19

Pray and ask the Lord to reveal your heart to you, to make known to you any areas of darkness, hardheartedness, callousness, or impurity. What did He show you?

God showed me that no matter what He wants us to come back to Him. Nothing is so bad that He cannot take us back, all we need to do is repent and He is just waiting for us. He wants us back into His loving arms. He wants to provide for us, to love us, to keep us safe. He will do what needs to be done to get us back.

I find this devotion very fitting for me today. I was just talking yesterday that I need to come back to Christ. That my walk with Him is lacking, is stagnant that it is barren. That I have fallen away from Him. Then this devotion comes up the very next day to show me that God wants me back. That even though I have fallen to the waste side that He still wants me back, that He is waiting for me to just turn back. That He has been waiting for me to come back.

I am so thankful for having such a loving and grateful God one that will be patient with us when we turn our back on Him, that He is still willing to wait for us. I fell to the side but here I am Lord I am ready to pick back up again and start walking in your way again Lord. Thank you so much for being patient with me and waiting and knowing that I would come stumbling back to you again.

  1. A couple of word pairs stand out: willing and obedient vs. refuse and rebel.
A few thousand years later, and i still have the same choice today. Thanks for opening up the timeless word of God and sharing your findings here!
